Step 1:
Find a spot with a plain, light background.
A white or neutral-colored wall works best.
Step 2:
Set up your camera at eye level. Use the front-facing selfie camera so you can see yourself, and be in the frame from head to shoulders.
Step 3:
Choose a place with good natural lighting, ideally facing a window, or use soft indoor lighting to avoid shadows on your face.
Step 4:
Sit or stand at a comfortable distance from the camera to capture a clear portrait of your face and shoulders.
Step 5:
Experiment with each of the 12 emotions.
Focus on your facial expressions to convey each one clearly. Use the ‘Emotion List’ for guidance on what each one should feel like.
Step 6:
Once all photos are done, review them to make sure each emotion is distinct,
then please send me all 12 photos:)
Emotion List:
1. Happiness
2. Sadness
3. Anger
4. Surprise
5. Fear
6. Disgust
7. Confidence
8. Confusion
9. Excitement
10. Thoughtfulness
11. Amusement
12. Determination
My dear Amelia, I don't give you any real examples of these portraits
from real actresses,
because for the beginning of our program,
I would love to capture it in a way you want to express it without any influence from cinematography or celebrities:)
It will be super interesting practical task!
Good luck and do not afraid of anything!
Amelia, this week’s Practical task is to create 12 different photos, each showing a different emotion.
This exercise is inspired by the famous actor’s emotion card, used by actors and models worldwide to build expression skills.
Using a simple white background and natural lighting, you’ll capture each emotion
and send me the results :)
